How often should you redo your website?

collection of post it notes with yes, no and question marks on them to accompany a blog about choosing a design company and should you redo your website?

We get asked this a lot; ‘How often should you redo your website?’

As a general rule, it’s recommended to refresh or redesign your website every 2–3 years. This helps make sure your site stays up to date with the latest design trends, technology, and how users interact online, all while continuing to support your business goals effectively.

That said, you don’t always need a full overhaul to keep things fresh. Smaller, more regular updates — like refreshing your imagery, tweaking your messaging, or adding seasonal content, can keep your site feeling current and relevant in between bigger redesigns.

If your branding has changed, your goals have shifted, or your website just feels a bit dated, it might be time for a bigger rethink.

But, our answer to the question how often should you redo your website is really that you should always be updating your website so it organically gets ‘redone’. Your website needs to evolve and be looked after as part of your business not an afterthought.

When considering how often should you redo your website, how well it works is a HUGE indicator.

If it is slow, sluggish, breaking all the time, hard to view on different devices etc you need to redo your website without a doubt.

If we were forced at shot gun to say how long a website should last, with technology changing quickly, we would say five years is a good marker. But, and it’s a big BUT, you shouldn’t wait until your website is visibly outdated or ineffective, as this will do your business more damage potentially than the investment it takes to redo your website.
