3 Stress-Free Website And Marketing Updates for Busy Business Owners

Penny and Warwick in Porto to accompany blog post about 3 stress free ways to update your website and marketing

Running a business is like juggling multiple balls at once.

There are clients to serve, emails to answer, invoices to send, and—if you’re anything like us—family life to juggle in between. And somewhere on that never-ending to-do list, you know you should be working on your business— staying on top of website and marketing updates, posting on social media—but let’s face it, it always drops to the bottom.

We get it. We’ve been there too.

But here’s something that completely shifted our perspective, and we just had to share it with you.

Not long ago, we had the privilege of hearing Deborah Meaden speak, and she shared three simple but powerful pieces of advice that really hit home for us—and we think they’ll resonate with you too:

  1. Know you what you want to do—and actually do it.
  2. Keep your head up—don’t get stuck in the weeds.
  3. Self-care matters—because without you, there is no business.

The last one? It nearly brought us to tears.

Because let’s face it—when you’re busy running a business, self-care is usually the first thing to go. As small-business owners, we pour so much into what we do, always striving to go the extra mile, but it can be exhausting.

But what if website and marketing updates didn’t have to feel overwhelming?

If you’ve been putting off carrying out website and marketing updates because you don’t have time or don’t know where to start, here’s how to make small, powerful website and marketing updates without the stress.

1. Know What You Want to Do—And Actually Do It

The hardest part of refreshing your marketing or website is starting.

Maybe you’ve been meaning to update your homepage for months or tweak your branding to feel more polished. But without a clear plan, it always seems to get pushed to the bottom of the list. So, here’s what to do:

Start with one small, intentional action today:

  • Look at your homepage—does it immediately tell visitors who you are and what you do?
  • Update one key image to give your website a fresh feel—it only takes a few minutes, but it can make a big difference.
  • Simplify your navigation—make it easier for customers to find what they need.
  • Refresh your Call-to-Action (CTA)—is your contact button clear? Are you guiding visitors to take the next step?

Small website updates like these can make your website feel new without the stress of a full redesign. And here’s the best part—it’s easy to implement, even if you’re pressed for time.

2. Keep Your Head Up—Don’t Get Stuck in the Weeds

It’s easy to get caught up in tiny details because we want everything to be perfect (we’ve all been guilty of it!). But here’s a game-changing tip: focus on what actually moves the needle in your business, not the details that no one but you will notice.

What truly matters is:

  • Clear and consistent messaging across your website and social media.
  • Making it easy for customers to take action—whether that’s buying, booking, or contacting you.
  • Incorporating real customer feedback into your marketing. Try this: take the exact phrases your customers use in their reviews and weave them into your website copy, social media, and emails. It not only strengthens your messaging but also makes potential customers feel like you get them.

If any of these elements are missing, that’s where your focus should go first.

3. Self-Care Isn’t a Luxury—It’s a Business Strategy

This one was a hard lesson for us to learn.

For a long time, we thought working more meant growing faster. But you know what happens when you never stop? You burn out. And when you’re exhausted, everything else suffers—your energy, your creativity, your decision-making.

Let’s be honest—if you’re feeling burnt out, the last thing you want to do is spend hours working on website and marketing updates – whether it be tweaking your website or crafting social media content.

So, here’s how to refresh your marketing and website without overwhelming yourself:

  • Simplify your marketing. You don’t need to be everywhere. Choose one or two platforms that work best for you, and focus on being consistent, not perfect.
  • Automate what you can. Use tools to schedule posts or set up automated email sequences. These systems give you back valuable time and mental space.
  • Delegate or outsource. You don’t have to do it all alone. Getting support isn’t a weakness; it’s a smart move that lets you focus on what you do best.
  • Sometimes you need a break. We totally know that this can be so hard to do when it’s your own business, but it’s true, you can’t pour from an empty cup.

At the end of the day, self-care isn’t just about bubble baths and yoga (though that helps, too!). It’s about creating a business that works for you, not one that drains you. We’ve just got back from a (slightly rainy!) Porto for Penny’s 50th, and we really tried not to check our phones, and thanks to Ryan Air’s bag policy, we didn’t have room for our laptops!! It was really nice not to think about working for a while and just being ourselves, not business owners or managers, etc.

Even if it’s just for an hour or so, make sure you take time to be yourself and have some peace.

Small Steps = Big Results

Website and marketing updates don’t have to be complicated. Focus on what truly matters, don’t get lost in the weeds, and remember—your business needs you at your best.

And remember – You don’t have to do it all alone. Whether you need a fresh pair of eyes on your website  (we’re currently offering a FREE Website Review), need help creating branded social media posts to save time, or just want to have a friendly chat about where to begin, we’re here to help. Drop us an email, and let’s get started!

PS And, we can wholeheartedly recommend visiting Porto!
