Can I use a logo created in ChatGPT?

Yes, is the simple answer. Yes, you can use a logo created in ChatGPT.

If the question was ‘Will a logo created in ChatGPT be good enough for print and marketing and make me look professional?’ the answer would probably be no.

Why the distinction?

Because the logo created by ChatGPT will be a PNG, JPEG, or other image format. Image-based files do not enlarge or print well, so in the end, they don’t look great.

For a logo to look clean, crisp and professional, it needs to be a vector file. With a vector file, you could enlarge your logo to the size of a football pitch without losing quality.

Why is this important?

Because your logo represents you, and if it looks pixelated and poor quality, you look poor quality, too, and customers notice.

According to a Lucidpress study, consistent, professional branding can increase revenue by up to 23%. A poor logo and quality does the opposite.

So yes, you can use a logo created in ChatGPT, but there are a few things you need to know first:

  1. You may not own the rights to the logo, so it may not actually be yours.
  2. It may be very similar to someone else’s. AI can ‘mimic’ things it has learnt.
  3. Or, it could create one very similar in the future for someone else.
  4. Your logo isn’t created to be scalable, so it is unsuitable for lots of uses
  5. AI can create inaccuracies and oddities that might not make sense.

A lot of our clients are now coming to use a logo created in ChatGPT, and we do have to explain that we can’t use them as they are; if you want your website, marketing material or printed merchandise to look the part.

If you do want to use a logo in ChatGPT, we recommend the following:

  • Take your concept to a designer and show them what you have in mind.
  • Ask them to create a selection of unique concepts related to the Chat design.
  • Give feedback and let your designer develop these concepts.
  • Choose a final design and let your designer supply it to you in all the high-resolution formats and variations you’ll need.

Ideally, we’d also ask your designer to think outside the box and come up with a concept of their own, just to see what comes of it. You might like it, and the genuine human mind does have originality!

If you do this, you know you will have a logo that is:

  • Unique
  • Professional
  • Scalable
  • Usable
  • And, Yours!

PS If budget is really tight, you could ask your designer to simply recreate the logo you created in Chat GPT so that you at least have all the files and formats in the quality you need (plus, if you can stretch to the designer making the logo individual for you, that would minimise the ownership and rights issue.)
